Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics

I recently got a haul from OCC which included 8 of their famous Lip Tars and their Matte Top Coat Nail Polish called "Flatline".
As far as price and shipping goes, it was standard... Considering how long the Lip Tars last, $12.50 (which falls pretty average among the non-drugstore lip product price range) is a great deal. As everybody says, you don't need a lot at all and they last all day. The nail polish was $8 and comes with the standard 0.05 oz. That's on par with OPI, Essie and other higher end brands.
They send out an email receipt but don't send out an email when your items have been shipped so you don't really know when the products are coming. They did come after the standard amount of time, so after about a week (from the time of purchase), the products were at my house. Standard shipping is just $7.50, like most online sites.

Urban Decay Haul: $5 Deals on Urban Decay!

This week (I'm not sure when it ends...) Urban Decay is having a sale on their site called "$5 Deals". Stating the obvious, this sale features products on sale for $5. They also have 50% off of their vintage brush line. Personally, I had been holding off from buying some of their products because of how expensive some of them can be (not unreasonable when compared to Mac in certain areas, but fairly unreasonable in others), but when I saw that the Ultraglides and the Pigments were on sale, I had to give in and purchase them!

Konad Stamping Nail Art

So I finally ordered a whole set of Konad stuff to amp up how I do my nails... I love my standard creme finish nail polishes, and a classically good looking manicure will always look amazing but in order to make things more fun and pretty and just taken to the next level I decided to get a set of Konad stuff.
I ordered everything from which is where SayAnythingBr00ke and xSparkage both order their Konad supplies from.

Konad Designs

This will be a continually updated post on all the Konad designs I do.
Each design will have a list of products used in it, and which plate was used...
This will eventually become a really, really, really long post (it's already pretty long already), so I might split it eventually, but for now, enjoy!

Plate: M55
Polishes: OPI Alpine Snow, OPI Comet loves Cupid, China Glaze QT

NOTW: Lisa Frank

Now I know I did a NOTW yesterday but my new Konad plate came in today and I could not resist.
I've been waiting for this one plate to do this one design and now that I've done it I couldn't be more pleased or entertained.
This is based off of sayanythingbr00ke's Lisa Frank nail tutorial.... actually it's like exactly the same.

Here are the products I used:
- QT (pink)
- L8R G8R (green/yellow)
- DV8 (blue)
- IDK (purple)
(all China Glaze OMG Collection polishes)
- Konad plate m57
- Konad special polish, Black

NOTW: "DVD" by Sally Hansen

First of all, this color in the collection was the most difficult for me to find. I looked in Bed Bath and Beyond, Walgreens and Target and finally found it (the last one of it) in my CVS.
From the new Sally Hansen HD Collection.... super hard to photograph and capture acurately it's got the same amount of glitter as the Zoya Sparkle collection, just layers and layers of different colored glitter. This one shines blue, purple and light turquoise... the base color is purple but it shines differently in different light and angles.
It's absolutely gorgeous! A definite must have!

Updated Face Routine

It's been almost 8 months since I've started making videos on YouTube and about 7 months since I did a foundation routine.
Since then, I've become a more avid (or obsessed) collector and I've found what works for me and what doesn't - what techniques work, what foundations stay on, what primers are fantastic, what is the fastest with the best finish etc.
Because of that my foundation routine has changed SO much from when I originally posted my foundation routine (which can be seen here).
The products I use now are products that work for my skin type, tone and are a finish that work for me both on and off camera.
So, first, here are the products that I currently use everyday, and then after I will compare it to what I used to do and have a little explanation as to why/what changed. A review of these products are in the video above, so there won't be much of a review here, just an explanation as to why I am using them now.
Keep in mind that although I use a majority of these products everyday, it's rare that I use ALL of them together all the time. These are just the ones that I go to the most... there are other products in my collection I just don't use them and rely on them as much.
The routine in my video is the one I do when I have the time to do it... If I have less time, I'll normally just skip the Benefit products and concealer all together because I don't need that much coverage on a daily basis.

Current Face Products:
- Moisturizer (Clinique 3 step for Oily/Combination skin [type 3])
- Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation Primer
- Mac Prep + Prime Skin Refined Zone Treatment
- Benefit That Gal
- Mac Studio Sculpt Concealer, NC20 or Mac Studio Finish Concealer NC20
- Benefit Some Kind-a Gorgeous
- Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Oil Free, "Sand"
- Mac Studio Fix Fluid SPF15 Foundation, NC25
- Nars Sheer Matte Foundation, "Punjab"
- Nars Sheer Glow Foundation, "Fiji" (currently not using that much, but will in the fall)
- Mac Studio Fix Powder, NC30
- Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder

Foundation Brushes (I cycle through them)
- Mac 190
- Sigma SS190
- Louise Young LY02
- Sephora Professionel Foundation Brush
- Mac 130 (limited edition)

Again, yes, that is a lot of products, but no I don't use all of them together everyday. That's not practical, economically responsible and it wouldn't look good at all. It's too many products to cake on and it would just look bad :|

Here are the products I listed in my old video's description box:
- BareVitamins I.D. (primer)
- Mac Mineralize Satinfinish SPF Foundation, NW25
- Mac Studio Sculpt Concealer, NW20
- BareMinerals Foundation, Medium Beige, Fairly Light
- Mac 217
- BareEscentuals Full Flawless Face Brush

Now, obviously, I used to use way less products. And I do miss that. It's something I do miss because the more I put on my face the guiltier I feel.
The thing is, I have such oily skin that those products simply didn't suffice.
First off, though I do love my BareVitamins I.D., I no longer use it as a primer because my oily skin just didn't find any positives about using that as a primer. It didn't stick, and my foundation didn't stick. Now, I use my I.D. as a night cream after my 3 step and I ALWAYS wake up with happy, and healthy looking and feeling skin.
The next problem was the foundation I was using. Before I really realized what type of skin I had, and what type of foundation I needed, I went to the Mac counter at my Nordstrom and asked to be matched to a foundation. I went at night, and the lighting in that Nordstrom is dark and really... there was no way I could have been matched to a foundation accurately that night. I'm a little miffed that the lady there did sell me a foundation because although she swatched it onto my skin and removed any makeup prior to the swatching it was still dark, there wasn't very good lighting and now that I look back on it she didn't really ask me what my skin type was or anything.
I love the girls at that counter but still, a little miffed. Anyways, I didn't know very much about makeup when I got this first foundation and so I asked for a dewy finish and then she gave me the Mac Satinfinish in NW25.
The problems I had with this foundation were a)it was too pink for my skin, b) the finish didn't work for me at all because I have oily skin and c) the shimmer and mineral bits in the foundation photographed horribly and gave my skin an ultra oily shimmer look.
So after about 2 months of wearing this and finally realizing at the end of the 2 months what I looked like at the end of the day, I switched to Studio Fix Fluid, to a color that matched me perfectly (after learning what the Mac numbering meant via Pixiwoo) and it has been my favorite foundation ever since. I started using both Nars foundations to try out other brands but I still reach for my Mac because of the way it feels, looks and works for me.
Next was the BareMinerals.
I love Bare Minerals. I love the concept, it was the first makeup I really seriously used and when just applied as a light dusting to even out the skin tone, it works great. Especially the Matte formula. When my skin looks great, and I mean that once in 3 months no flaws for like... a day great, I pull out the BareMinerals and just do a light sweep of it to keep the oil under control and for the SPF.
Otherwise, I don't use it anymore to set my foundation because the minerals in that products photograph horribly as well.
The mineral bits in all of these products reflect the light in the flash of a camera and basically make your face look cakey and white compared to the skin that doesn't have any of the product. No flash, and you'll look fine, but when there's a flash, it's just bad news.
So, I switched to setting powders and face powders that weren't mineralized because of that. It's why I'm weary to try out the Mac MSF Naturals because I'm all "gross face photo" phobic. The normal MSF's photograph ok, but they also have pigmentation in them and I only use them as highlight/blush so that gross look doesn't happen.
Again, nowadays I don't really use concealer unless I have time and it's absolutely necessary. My dark circles aren't really existent anymore and no matter what concealer I use over breakouts, it just looks cakey and awful so unless I have red spots all over my face (with no texture) and that can't be covered by foundation (which rarely happens) I don't even bother with concealer anymore. I still use a blending brush for it though when I do use it, or I use my fingers.

I will probably reflect back again on the whole Face Routine thing in another 8 months, because I know I will again have learned much more and things inevitably change.
For now though, after this long post, this is it.
I hope everybody had a great 4th of July, and more blogs and videos will be up soon!

FOTD: 7/9/10

June Favorites

I can't tell you how excited I am that June is over.... July means I get my iPhone 4 (our cell phone update starts now and my parents are giving me an early birthday present) and the Nordstrom sale, August means school starts and my birthday, September means I get to start another job along with the one I have now = more money = more makeup, and October means hockey is back!
Since these last 6 months went by so fast, I'm going to assume all of this will come in no time then it will be Thanksgiving and CHRISTMAS!!!!

Here are all of my June favorites:

- Vera Wang "Princess" and Bath and Body Works "Wild Honeysuckle" perfumes

Together they make the most beautiful, soft, romantic but fresh scent that I just can't get enough of this summer. The freshness in the Wild Honeysuckle counteracts the slight heaviness in the Vera Wang, which is a vanilla-y floral scent. I just can't get enough of it together!

- Mac Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 (NC25) and Nars Sheer Matte (Punjab)
Together, the texture of this is perfect for me, especially in the summer. I have super oily skin in the summer and the matte formula of both of these combined is perfect. The color is also good for me too because separately they're not quite a good enough color match for me. On the days my skin looks slightly darker, I mix it in with Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer (Sand) or I just bronze up a little bit more with my MSF.

- Sleek iDivine Eye Shadow Palettes
I have 2 of them (The Original on the left and Storm on the right) and I absolutely love them. They're only available to buy in person in the UK but can also be purchased online here and here. I have a review and a tutorial using just the Sleek palettes so go check them out! Nonetheless, I absolutely love these palettes because they travel well, are super pigmented, blend well, last a long time, and are inexpensive ( 4.99 pounds for 12 shadows!).

- Sigma SS224
This one I've been using to blend cream shadows. The bristles are much more coarse than the Mac 224 and I found that they are more effective when trying to blend cream products like Mac Paint Pots and Benefit Creaseless/Cream Shadows. The Mac 224 is super soft, longer, and more narrow and so it's great for powder shadows. I love this brush though for the specific reason of blending cream shadows.

- YSL Golden Gloss (10 - Golden Peony) and Chanel Lèvres Scintillantes Glossimer (Waterlily)
These 2 glosses are abnormally higher end than I would usually wear. I love the Golden Gloss because it's super shimmery with real gold flecks and the pink is the perfect summer pink. On the lips it comes off super shimmery and beautiful! The Chanel gloss is not sticky, the perfect amount of pigmentation and also a wonderful pink with a gold sheen. They're both expensive so I'm not going to push buying them unless they're in your budget to buy them. If they are, they're gorgeous so do it!

- Mac Mineralize Skin Finish, "Comfort" and "By Candelight"
Comfort is my bronzer that I usually wear and By Candelight is a light pink/gold sheen highlight that I used everyday this month. They're being re-released with the Mac In The Groove collection, which is available on July 8th. They were originally available with the winter Mac Warm and Cozy collection. I'm so glad that I bought them when I did because I literally use them everyday. I wasn't originally planning on buying them but honestly, it was totally worth it! I don't know if Comfort is going to be great for cooler toned, pale skinned people because it's fairly orange and tan and was definitely not a color that I used in the winter. By Candelight looks great on every skin tone I've seen though. The gold shimmer looks different on all skin tones but looks beautiful regardless.

- Orly Foil FX
These are probably my favorite new nail polishes because they're unlike almost all of the nail polishes I normally gravitate towards. I love cream finishes. I'm iffy on the shimmery or metallic ones because I feel like I can get those anywhere. A good cream finished nail polish is more difficult to find in colors outside of the neutral or pink zone, hence my love of China Glaze and OPI. These colors just intrigued me because they were foil finishes in silver, white gold and a pink bronze, which (well at least the latter 2) were not colors that I would expect. I did a NOTW post earlier with the gold, and it was probably one of the most fantastical nail looks I've done.

- Long Necklaces, Flower accessories

I've talked about the mustache necklace before and how much I love it. Because it's a long, cute necklace, I didn't wear it much in the winter. I wore mostly short less "fun" jewelry in the fall/winter. Now that it's summer I feel like I can wear more fun pieces, especially when i'm not at work. The mustache necklace is an absolute favorite of mine, and can be purchased here. Each one is hand made, and are available on my friend's wife's Etsy site.
The Flower hair clip is also available on Etsy on my friend Darcy's site. I had it pinned in my hair for a while and got a lot of compliments on it and I thought I would share it with all of you guys. I think it's cute, great for summer and can be dressed up or down depending how everything else you wear.
The other 2 necklaces are just long necklaces that I've been liking, the sea shell one from H&M and the leaf one from Ruche.
