Mac Surf, Baby! Collection - Summer 2011

warmvanillasugar0823,Mac Surf! Baby Collection
Surf, Baby! is Mac's Summer collection for 2011. There was a lot of hype around this collection, especially due to last year's super popular To The Beach collection. I was really excited for it as well, but after looking through everything there was really only a couple of things that I wanted.
Instead, I've decided to save my money for the upcoming Semi-Precious collection, which seems like a very solid, and very large collection.

Anyways, the Surf, Baby! collection is all themed around surf boards and the beach. Colors are all very cohesive and in general seemed like very solid products. There was specialized packaging that reflected the colors in the collection and overall made everything seem related, which sometimes doesn't happen with Mac collections.
The collection had a full line of lipsticks, lip glosses, eye shadows, eye pencils, as well as various face items, most notably the face powder with the gold hibiscus flower, which is very reminiscent of last year's Marine Life face powder.
Most of the collection was warm colors - golds, corals and peachy pinks. The other side to the collection was a range of teals and aquas which I was immediately enamored with.
Most of these items are limited edition and can be found wherever Mac is sold.
Mac "Full of Grace" Suntint

These actually got relatively un-positive reviews from people online, but I was interested in them. I'm a sucker for balms. Not just balms, for staining balms, or for tinted lip balms and the like. I'm not a huge fan of overly opaque glosses, because I feel like sometimes they don't wear very well. Tinted balms and glosses work the best because they give a natural amount of color and fade away better than fully opaque glosses. I wear things like this year round but it's great for summer and it's great as a multi-tasker.
The Suntints come with an SPF and have the texture of a potted gloss/balm just inside a tube. It's not too slippery but not sticky. They're moisturizing and condition pretty well.
"Full of Grace" is a watermelon pink and is the darkest of the shades Mac released in the Surf, Baby! Suntint line.

Mac "Blue Noon" Powerpoint Eye Pencil

This is a slightly shimmery teal eye pencil. It reminds me quite a bit of the "Undercurrent" Pearlglide Liner that Mac released last year, color wise. It just doesn't have the super glitter in it that the Pearlglide liners had.
The pencil itself is pretty soft but not too soft that it would fade away quickly in the heat.

Mac "Surf USA" Eye Shadow

There were 5 shadows released and this is the only one that I purchased, obviously for the color. It's a frost finish but it's not super shimmery and frosty like most frost finishes in the Mac line.
This is a slightly greener teal shadow with a very slight silver shimmer. It's very opaque and very smooth.

Crushed Metallic Pigment Stack "Surf The Ocean"

The first time I saw the Crushed Metallic Pigment Stacks were in last year's Spring Color Forecast collection (the HUGE spring collection). Surf, Baby! came with 2 stacks one was a purpley/plum combination (which is something I always lean towards but didn't seem necessary this year) and this very ocean-y summer stack.
The stack comes with four colors, a gold, silver, seafoam green and a very dark navy/seaweed green color.
The texture of them overall is pretty standard. They're smooth and can feel slightly creamy but are for sure a powder, not a cream. Some are a slightly more creamy texture than the others but overall, are very smooth and are definitely pigments.

They come connected to each other. The 4 pigments can screw together and act as lids to each other. They came in stacks of 2, but the 4 pigments can attach and become one longer stack. Within each pigment comes a plastic covering as well.

Silver frost (keep in mind that isn't the name - none of these individual have names). Similar to Platinum Pigment, just slightly darker and the pigment itself is flakier. Platinum was a very very finely milled powder. This is much flakier and is truly like metal flakes.

Sheer iridescent seafoam green. This reminds me a lot of the Benefit "Moon Doggie" Lust Duster. There's also a very similar pigment that comes in the Jesse's Girl pigment line but I have no idea what the name is. This is the least opaque of the 4 but is the most iridescent. It also applies the most finely - as in the pigment seems the finest, even though it looks like it clumps quite a bit in the pot.

Brassy gold metallic color. This is the most "creamy", the most clumpy (well sort of) and also has a slight scent to it. It's not an offensive scent, it's just a... sort of metallic powdery scent? I don't know. It's got a slightly "wet" feeling to it. Which is so hard to explain. It clearly clumps up the most. The flakes stick together the most and almost feel like a cream shadow when you apply them, but when blended out it doesn't have any of the stickiness that cream shadows have before they set. It's so hard to explain. The texture of it makes it the hardest to deal with, but also makes it the most definitely pigmented color.

Dark navy and sea-weed green color with shimmery green and turquoise shimmer. It also sometimes reflects a rainbow like shimmer, which you can see in the blurry up close photo in the middle.
When swatched the green shimmer comes out the most. It also doesn't apply as deep and dark as it looks in the pot but can be built up very nicely.

Mac "Ocean Dip" Nail Lacquer

This I love. This is probably my favorite product in the collection. The packaging for it is simple and coincides with the rest of the collection and it could have gone all wrong. But it looks very easy and clean.
The color is a teal creme. Very opaque. 2 coats completely suffices.
It's the perfect summer creme shade. I'm totally in love with it. It dries pretty quickly.
