Maybelline Illegal Length Fiber Extensions Mascara - 940 Blackest Black

Along with a new liquid liner, a new mascara was on my agenda on my last trip to the drugstore. I personally prefer lengthening mascaras to volumizing or curling mascaras so I typically go out and seek those, especially if there's a waterproof formula.
Usually I just go and pick up my go to drugstore mascara, the Covergirl Eye Exacts mascara in their waterproof formula. This time around I wanted to try something different, so I headed over to the Maybelline aisle because in general, they have the most well-reviewed assortment of mascaras to choose from.
The Illegal Length was the most advertised lengthening mascara that I had recently seen, in the drugstore in the stands as well as in magazines. It claims to use fiber extensions - I have no idea what that means so I sort of just bought it anyways. Again, I don't really read the claims on the packaging, I just look for the blackest color and the fact that it's waterproof.
The formula doesn't smell like other mascaras by Maybelline I've tried have had. The brush is a thin and wiry brush, that is sort of square in shape if you look at it head-on.
When applied, it does lengthen pretty immediately. Lashes look natural after one coat and don't feel too stiff. When layered, you can definitely feel the mascara on your lashes, and it doesn't build the greatest. There's a slight texture to the lashes, almost bumpy, and it gets more noticeable the more you layer it on. It's not too bad but it is something to keep in mind if you don't like your lashes to look too made up.
As for the waterproof-ness of this product? It's SUPER waterproof. As in, even with a makeup wipe and with makeup remover, I used the Lancome Bi-Facil, it was still pretty heavily on my lashes. It's difficult to remove, and requires a bit of tugging.
I liked the results of the mascara, but the removal was a pain so I don't think I'll purchase it again, at least not for the purpose of having a waterproof mascara. I might try the regular formula but I don't really know. I'd rather try another type of mascara instead.
These retail for about $7 or $8 at all drugstores.

  2. I bought this because I was intrigued. I've used the japanese fiber mascaras and they're amazing. This formula was alright but i kept having to layer it and by the end of the day, my lashes weren't curled anymore.
